Candidates for this position are required to have an overall understanding of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and strong knowledge of ESRI's ArcGIS software. Candidates should be proficient with ArcGIS Desktop, capable of applying GIS concepts and knowledge to troubleshoot and problem solve, able to work independently on projects and establish workflows, processes, and methods. The ideal Candidate for this position will be innovative, highly motivated, and possess exceptional critical thinking skills and initiative. A high level of attention to detail is required.


  • Create, organize, modify and analyze geospatial data and map oil and gas industry-related features.
  • Create map layouts and views, perform spatial analysis and generate graphics/reports for end users.
  • Manipulate GIS data to create information products to meet discipline specific needs.
  • Perform GIS data quality control, including reviewing data for completeness and accuracy.
  • Geo-reference and digitize static maps into useful map overlays to be used within ArcMap.
  • Research and interpret source documents such as oil and gas leases, deed records, and survey plats.
  • Generate high quality oil and gas related maps for print and digital use.
  • Perform other GIS and map making /data-related tasks as required.
  • Work collaboratively with staff from across the company to assist end users with daily mapping analysis as needed.


  • Associates Degree in GIS or related field OR equivalent job experience along with a high school diploma or GED.
  • Esri ArcGIS Desktop 10.x experience required.
  • Efficient and effective use of Microsoft Office applications required.
  • Experience capturing, converting, creating, editing, manipulating and maintaining digital information in a GIS environment.
  • Knowledge of map coordinate systems, projections, and transformations.
  • Experience with ArcGIS ModelBuilder and Python scripting to perform geoprocessing/automation tasks is a plus.
  • Fundamental oil & gas industry knowledge and experience is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of oil and gas lease and tract data is a plus.
  • Experience with land mapping systems is desirable.
  • Familiarity with Drillinginfo, IHS, state regulatory sites and other 3rd party data suppliers is a plus.
  • Excellent organizational, reasoning, written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to learn new tasks, improve processes and document workflows.
  • Well-developed analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong attention to detail.
